PRIME MINISTER RESOLVES MP’S CONCERNS AT OLTRUMENT HOSPITAL, LUKUMAY COMMENDS GOVERNMENT

The Member of Parliament for Arumeru West, Dr. Johannes Lukumay, has expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister, Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba, for the swift resolution of key infrastructure challenges at Oltrument District Hospital, including the upgrading of the 1.5-kilometre access road and the construction of a protective perimeter fence. The measures are aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and enhancing patient safety.

Dr. Lukumay delivered his remarks during a public rally held in Oltrument Ward in Ngaramtoni as part of the Prime Minister’s working visit to Arusha. He noted that the interventions followed the Prime Minister’s on-site visit to the hospital, where a formal request was presented for the tarmacking of the access road and the construction of a secure boundary fence.

Responding to the concerns, the Prime Minister directed the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) to immediately engage a contractor to commence rehabilitation works on the road segment, underscoring its critical importance for pregnant women and emergency referrals.

He further instructed that the hospital fence be constructed using internally generated revenue from the local authority, a directive that the Arusha Regional Commissioner pledged to supervise to ensure prompt implementation.

Addressing residents, Dr. Lukumay also commended the Government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for advancing major development projects across the constituency. He highlighted an estimated investment of TZS 69.9 billion in health, water, education, infrastructure, and energy, describing it as a clear demonstration of the Government’s commitment to improving citizens’ livelihoods.

The MP outlined progress on a major water supply project serving the wards of Kimnyak, Sambasha, Tarakwa, Olirya, and Kiranyi, valued at TZS 520 billion. He noted that TZS 2.7 billion has already been approved for the procurement of pipes to facilitate water distribution in the project corridor.

He emphasized that completion of the project will significantly reduce health risks associated with high fluoride levels in drinking water, particularly in Oldonyosambu and Oldonyowasi wards.

In the transport sector, Dr. Lukumay stressed the strategic importance of key road projects—including Mwandeti–Kilimamoto, Loning’o–Seliani, Sambasha–Olmotonyi–Ngaramtoni, and Sekei–Olgilai—stating that their development will ease mobility and stimulate tourism in the area, which is endowed with natural attractions.

“These projects form the backbone of our community’s development. We appreciate the Prime Minister’s responsiveness and decisive action, which bring renewed hope to our people,” Dr. Lukumay stated.

He also appealed for the modernization of the Ngaramtoni market to attract more visitors to the constituency—an appeal that prompted the Prime Minister to instruct city and municipal authorities to identify and upgrade market areas to higher standards.

Earlier, the Acting Medical Officer in Charge at Oltrument District Hospital, Dr. Lootosim Zabroni, identified completion of the tarmac road and construction of the hospital fence—estimated at TZS 316 million—as the facility’s most pressing needs. He also commended the Government for allocating TZS 1.465 billion to enhance healthcare services and infrastructure at the hospital.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Arumeru West provided residents with a platform to present their concerns directly to the Government, while witnessing immediate decisions aimed at improving essential services in healthcare, water supply, and infrastructure.
