The Member of Parliament for Arumeru West, Dr. Johannes Lukumay, in collaboration with his friends based in Germany, has donated clothes, books, and cash to the Jane Olevolos Orphans Center, located in Olevolos Village, Kimnyaki Ward, Arumeru District, Arusha Region.

The donation follows Dr. Lukumay’s recent working visit to Germany, where he met with his friends who were deeply moved by the challenges facing orphaned children after visiting the center last year.

Among them is Dr. Ursula, a German national, who personally visited the facility and witnessed firsthand the living conditions of about 45 children currently under the center’s care. Her experience, together with that of other well-wishers, inspired a collective decision to support the children’s basic needs.

Dr. Lukumay officially handed over the assistance on January 10, 2026, during a brief ceremony held at the center. He said the support was part of a Christmas goodwill pledge made by his German friends after being touched by the needs of the orphaned children.

Speaking after the handover, Dr. Lukumay said he has been supporting the Jane Olevolos Orphans Center since 2019, even before being elected to Parliament, noting that caring for vulnerable groups remains a core part of his personal commitment and leadership values.

“Last year, I had the opportunity to bring my friends from Germany to visit this center. They were deeply touched by the challenges they saw and pledged to support these children with a Christmas gift. Today, I am delighted to fulfill that promise on their behalf,” said Dr. Lukumay.

He added that he takes pride in being part of the upbringing and welfare of orphaned children and pledged to continue working closely with various stakeholders to ensure sustainable support aimed at improving the children’s living conditions and future prospects.

Dr. Lukumay also expressed heartfelt gratitude to his German friends for their generosity and compassion, saying their contribution has brought great comfort to both the children and the center’s management.

On their part, the children living at the center used the occasion to sincerely thank Dr. Lukumay’s friends from Germany for the support they received, saying it had renewed their hope for a better life. They explained that most of them have no parents and rely entirely on donors and people of goodwill to survive, access education, and meet basic needs.

“We kindly ask them not to grow weary of supporting us. We have no parents, and we depend on donors so that we can live, study, and achieve our dreams just like other children who have parents,” the children said collectively, with gratitude and hope.

Meanwhile, the Director of Jane Olevolos Orphans Center, Ms. Jane Mollel, said the center was established in 2005 with the aim of providing care, education, and social support to orphaned and vulnerable children.

She noted that since its establishment, the center has supported a total of 250 children to access education at various levels, from early childhood education to higher learning institutions. However, she said challenges related to basic needs such as food, clothing, and school fees remain significant.

“We are deeply grateful to Dr. Lukumay and his friends for this generous support. It has brought comfort, hope, and motivation to our children to continue with their education and life journey,” said Ms. Mollel.
