ARUMERU West Member of Parliament, Dr Johannes Lembulung Lukumay, has launched an initiative aimed at expanding access to oral and dental healthcare services for residents of Arusha Region, with a specialised clinic expected to begin operations in January 2027.
The initiative follows a meeting held in Berlin, Germany, on October 1, 2026, between Dr Lukumay and DENTOGLOBAL Director, Dr Ursula Subier, during which they discussed the implementation of the programme in collaboration with various stakeholders.
Under the initiative, the planned oral and dental health clinic will be complemented by mobile dental clinics that will provide services to residents in different areas of Arumeru West constituency.
The mobile clinics are intended to bring specialised oral healthcare services closer to communities, particularly residents who may otherwise have to travel long distances to access such services.
Dr Lukumay said the initiative seeks to improve access to quality oral and dental healthcare while ensuring that residents can obtain professional services closer to where they live.
The programme will also focus on building the capacity of Tanzanian oral health professionals, with selected experts expected to travel to Germany for specialised training and exposure to international best practices in the field.
The training is expected to enhance the skills and professional capacity of Tanzanian specialists, enabling them to apply the knowledge and experience gained abroad to improve oral and dental healthcare services in the country, particularly in Arusha Region.
The initiative will be implemented through a partnership involving DENTOGLOBAL of Germany, German development partners, the German Government, Tanzania's TATIC Company and NEPT, the Government of Tanzania, and residents of Arumeru West constituency.
The programme is part of broader efforts to strengthen access to healthcare through collaboration between the Government, elected representatives, the private sector and development partners from within and outside the country.
