GERMAN DENTAL SPECIALISTS LAUNCH FREE DENTAL TREATMENT CAMP; TOOTH DECAY DOMINATES CASES AT SELIANI–NGARAMTONI

ARUSHA District Council Dental Officer, Dr. Esther Luhonga, has revealed that the majority of patients who attended the first day of a free dental outreach camp at Seliani Hospital were diagnosed with tooth decay and gum disease.
Speaking on July 23, Dr. Luhonga said a total of 33 patients received dental examinations and treatment during the opening day of the two-day outreach clinic.
She explained that treatment is tailored to each patient's condition, including filling decayed teeth, extracting teeth that cannot be restored, and providing professional gum cleaning for patients suffering from periodontal disease.
"Patients with decayed teeth that can still be saved receive dental fillings, while teeth that cannot be treated are extracted. Those with gum disease undergo professional cleaning to remove infection and improve oral health," she said.
In addition to treatment, Dr. Luhonga noted that members of the public are receiving oral health education, including proper tooth-brushing techniques and preventive measures to reduce the risk of tooth decay and other oral diseases.
She said the outreach is being conducted in collaboration with a team of dental specialists led by a German oral health expert, enabling residents to access comprehensive dental services based on their individual needs.
Dr. Luhonga urged residents who were unable to attend on the first day to take advantage of the second and final day of the camp by visiting Seliani Hospital for free dental screening, education and treatment.
"I invite all residents of Arusha District Council to come to Seliani Hospital. We will continue providing services tomorrow, so everyone is welcome to receive free oral health screening, education and treatment," she said.
Commenting on the availability of dental services in Arusha District Council, Dr. Luhonga said oral health services are routinely offered at government health facilities across the district, where qualified dental professionals continue to provide care to patients requiring treatment.
