The Government has announced plans to begin the construction of a two-kilometre tarmac road leading to Olrumeti District Hospital in Arumeru District after the project was incorporated into the road sector’s budget and development plans.

The statement was made in Parliament on June 22, 2026, by the Deputy Minister responsible for the roads sector while responding to a supplementary question from Arumeru West Member of Parliament, Dr. Johannes Lukumay, who sought clarification on when the Government would implement the Prime Minister’s directive to construct the important road section.

Presenting his question, Dr. Lukumay recalled that on February 22, 2026, the Prime Minister visited Arumeru West Constituency and toured Olrumeti District Hospital, where he witnessed significant investments made by the Sixth Phase Government under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan to improve healthcare services.

The MP noted that despite the substantial investment in the hospital, it continues to face road infrastructure challenges, particularly the two-kilometre stretch connecting the facility to the main road network. He said the situation affects transportation for patients, healthcare workers, and residents seeking medical services.

“The Prime Minister directed TARURA to ensure that this road is constructed and even stated that there was no need to seek any additional approval. When will the Government implement those directives?” Dr. Lukumay asked.

In response, the Deputy Minister said the Government recognizes the strategic importance of the road, as it serves a district hospital that provides healthcare services to thousands of residents in Arumeru and surrounding areas.

He explained that the Prime Minister’s directive has already been acted upon by including the project in the Government’s budget framework and development plans. Budgetary and implementation procedures are currently underway to ensure construction begins as soon as possible.

“We recognize that these are directives from the Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania. The project has already been incorporated into our plans, and implementation processes are ongoing. Our goal is to ensure that this road section is upgraded to tarmac standard to improve transport and healthcare service delivery in the area,” the Deputy Minister said.

The project is expected to ease transportation challenges for residents of Arumeru West and enhance the efficiency of healthcare service delivery at Olrumeti District Hospital, which remains a key medical facility serving the district and neighboring communities.

Ends.
