The Member of Parliament for Arumeru West, Dr. Johannes Lukumay, has expressed strong optimism among his constituents after detailing the outcomes of his engagements with the central government. He commended Samia Suluhu Hassan for her responsive leadership and tangible results that are benefiting citizens.
Speaking during Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba’s visit at the launch of road construction projects in Mbauda, Arusha, Dr. Lukumay revealed that he recently met President Samia in Dar es Salaam. During their meeting, he congratulated her for significant efforts in strengthening the healthcare sector, noting that the investments are already yielding major results, particularly in the treatment of chronic diseases.
He explained that the government has expanded the country’s medical capacity, including cancer treatment services at the Ocean Road Cancer Institute, as well as specialized care for heart disease, kidney conditions, diabetes, and orthopedic services—reducing the need for patients to seek treatment abroad.
“Our President has demonstrated genuine commitment to caring for Tanzanians. Today, specialized medical services are available within the country, reducing costs for citizens and saving lives,” emphasized Dr. Lukumay.
On infrastructure, the MP expressed satisfaction with the government’s move—under Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa—to begin implementing key road projects in his constituency, particularly the long-awaited road from Mbauda through Oljoro to Losinyai.
He recalled that during his campaign, he pledged to advocate for the construction of this road, and his efforts are now beginning to bear fruit as the government shows clear commitment to its implementation.
“Residents of Oljoro have long faced serious transportation challenges. Today, we see hope. The government has heard them, and steps are now being taken following the Prime Minister’s launch of the Mbauda–Oljoro–Losinyai road project,” he said.
Dr. Lukumay stressed that improved infrastructure is a key driver of economic development, especially for farmers and small-scale traders. He added that the upcoming AFCON 2027 tournament will create even greater economic opportunities for citizens, provided infrastructure is upgraded in time.
In addition to the Mbauda–Oljoro road, he mentioned other planned projects including Malula–Bwawani, Loning’o–Seliani, Mangata–Sokoni 2, Kilimamoto–Mwandet, and Sambasha to Olmotonyi–Ngaramtoni roads. He noted that all these projects have been prioritized in the development plan and budget.
He further revealed that he has advised the government to increase emergency road funds from 2.3 billion shillings to 6 billion shillings to address infrastructure challenges more rapidly.
In his remarks, the MP also highlighted the Universal Health Insurance plan, describing it as a historic initiative aimed at reaching all citizens, especially vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children under five, the elderly, and low-income individuals.
He urged citizens to continue trusting their government, emphasizing that it is fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities and remains close to the people in addressing their concerns.
“The Sixth Phase Government is responsive and action-oriented. My constituents should continue to have confidence, maintain peace, and cooperate with the government to bring development,” he stressed.
Overall, the MP’s remarks have sparked renewed hope among residents of Arumeru West, who believe that once these projects are fully implemented, they will significantly transform livelihoods and accelerate social and economic development in the area.
