LUKUMAY HAILS GOVERNMENT'S DEVELOPMENT RECORD, URGES FASTER POWER ROLL-OUT IN ARUSHA

Arumeru West Member of Parliament Dr Johannes Lukumay has praised the Sixth Phase Government for what he described as significant achievements in education, infrastructure and social services, while calling for faster implementation of key development projects, particularly electricity connectivity in parts of Arusha District Council.

Addressing the Arusha District Council Full Council meeting on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, Dr Lukumay said the government's continued investment in education has transformed access to learning through free basic education, expanded higher education loans and the construction of modern school infrastructure across the country.

"The government's commitment to investing in education is laying a strong foundation for the nation's future by giving more children and young people access to quality learning opportunities," he said.

However, the legislator noted that despite progress made through rural electrification programmes, residents of Ngaramtoni Township are still waiting for electricity in several neighbourhoods.

He urged the Ministry of Energy and its agencies to speed up power connections in the remaining underserved areas, saying reliable electricity is critical for business growth, job creation and improved delivery of social services.

Dr Lukumay also commended Arusha Regional Commissioner CPA Amos Makalla for closely monitoring the implementation of development projects and working with local leaders to improve public service delivery across the region.

On local governance, the MP challenged councillors to intensify public education on local revenue collection systems and statutory levies to address public complaints arising from inadequate understanding of government charges.

He further stressed the importance of increasing awareness of the council's 10 percent revolving loan fund so that women, youth and persons with disabilities can fully benefit from the financing opportunities.

According to government guidelines, four percent of the fund is earmarked for women, four percent for youth and two percent for persons with disabilities.

Dr Lukumay concluded by calling for closer cooperation between the government and local authorities to ensure development projects are completed on time and deliver meaningful improvements in the lives of residents of Arumeru West and the wider Arusha District.
