MP FOR ARUMERU WEST DEMANDS GOVERNMENT CLARITY ON NGARAMTONI MODERN MARKET PROJECT
By Joseph Ngilisho | DODOMA
THE Member of Parliament for Arumeru West, Johannes Lukumay, has raised a pressing question in Parliament, calling on the Government to clearly state when it will commence the construction of a modern market at Ngaramtoni—an Õ¶Õ¡ÕÕ¡Õ£—project previously promised by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan during her official visit to Arusha Region.
While presenting his question, Lukumay noted that residents of Arumeru West have maintained high expectations regarding the implementation of the project, which is widely viewed as a critical intervention aimed at improving the business environment and stimulating local economic growth.
“Mr. Speaker, on October 1, 2025, President Samia Suluhu Hassan visited my constituency of Arumeru West and pledged the construction of a modern market in the Ngaramtoni area. I would like to know when the Government intends to implement this commitment,” Lukumay queried.
He further explained that despite the promise being received with considerable optimism by the local population, no visible progress has been made to date. This delay, he argued, continues to deny residents access to adequate market facilities and meaningful commercial opportunities.
“Mr. Speaker, traders in Ngaramtoni and surrounding areas continue to operate under unsatisfactory conditions. I urge the Government to specify the exact timeline for the commencement of the modern market, as promised by the President,” he emphasized.
The legislator underscored that the construction of the proposed market would serve as a significant catalyst for socio-economic development in Arumeru West, particularly given Ngaramtoni’s strategic role as a hub for trade and agricultural activities.
He added that a modern market would not only enhance revenue collection for the local council but also improve sanitation, ensure better security for traders, and attract investment in small and medium-sized enterprises.
Lukumay’s intervention comes at a time when the Government continues to reaffirm its commitment to upgrading market infrastructure nationwide, with the aim of enabling citizens to conduct business in safe, efficient, and productive environments.
Residents of Arumeru West are now eagerly awaiting the Government’s response and concrete steps toward fulfilling what they consider a crucial development promise.
