Minister Mchengerwa made the remarks on January 27, 2026, during an official visit to Olturumenti District Hospital, located in Arusha District Council, Arusha Region. He was accompanied by the Member of Parliament for Arumeru West, Dr. Lukumay, who also serves as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health.

Addressing residents, health workers, and local leaders, the Minister described Dr. Lukumay as an exemplary leader who has demonstrated exceptional capacity and commitment since his election to Parliament. He noted that Dr. Lukumay’s subsequent appointment as Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health reflects the high level of trust and confidence he has earned among fellow legislators.

“I sincerely congratulate you for making the right decision in electing Dr. Lukumay as your Member of Parliament. Choosing him was a wise move, but it was after he entered Parliament that we fully witnessed the depth of his leadership capacity,” said Minister Mchengerwa.

He added that Dr. Lukumay’s election to lead the parliamentary committee overseeing critical health matters—including public health, the fight against HIV/AIDS, and broader national health policies—is clear evidence of his professionalism, humility, and strong sense of patriotism.

The Minister emphasized that Dr. Lukumay is a leader who consistently prioritizes the interests of citizens and the nation at large. He noted that whether inside or outside Parliament, Dr. Lukumay’s contributions are always focused on safeguarding the health of Tanzanians and ensuring improved access to quality health services for all, especially vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people living in difficult conditions.

“Every contribution made by Dr. Lukumay is about the nation, about Tanzanians, and about improving people’s lives. He has continued to speak boldly and responsibly on behalf of Arumeru residents and the country as a whole,” the Minister stressed.

During the visit, Minister Mchengerwa expressed his satisfaction with the level and quality of services provided at Olturumenti District Hospital. He pledged that the Ministry of Health would continue to work closely with Dr. Lukumay and the Arumeru District Council leadership to further strengthen the hospital’s infrastructure, medical equipment, and human resources.

“In my capacity as Minister of Health, I will continue to collaborate closely with Dr. Lukumay to ensure that the health sector is protected, strengthened, and developed for the benefit of all Tanzanians,” he said.

He concluded by calling on residents of Arumeru to continue supporting their Member of Parliament and to work hand in hand with the Government in improving health services and promoting overall social and economic development. The Minister further encouraged them, if possible, to entrust Dr. Lukumay with leadership once again in the 2030 general elections.
