Hospital, Mateves market, four- and five-star hotels, apartments among priority projects

ARUMERU West MP Dr Johannes Lukumay says investors have expressed interest in financing development projects worth Sh116 billion in his constituency, including a modern hospital, Mateves market, four- and five-star hotels and modern rental apartments. He said the investors were ready to begin implementing the projects once the necessary documentation was completed, noting that the investments would boost local revenue, create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
“I thank these investors for expressing their interest in investing in Arumeru West. They are ready to begin as soon as the required project documentation is completed,” he said.
Among the proposed projects is a modern hospital equipped with advanced medical facilities and staffed by qualified health professionals to improve access to healthcare services.
Dr Lukumay said the growing demand for quality healthcare made the proposed hospital a priority, adding that water supply and education were also among the key sectors requiring investment.
He commended Ms Lugangira for her efforts to attract investors, saying cooperation between government leaders and the private sector was essential in mobilising the capital and expertise needed to implement development projects.
The MP also praised Arusha District Council Executive Director Suleiman Msumi for creating an enabling environment for discussions with prospective investors.
Speaking at the event, Mohamed Mazrui, a representative of financial institutions supporting development projects across Africa through public-private partnerships (PPPs), said he was ready to work with the council to mobilise investors and financial institutions for the proposed projects.
Mazrui, who represents Amadeus and Sahara Group of Companies, said the institutions had investment experience in various African countries and were prepared to assess available opportunities in Arumeru.
He said the next step would involve visiting the proposed investment sites to conduct assessments and advance discussions on financing arrangements.
For his part, Mr Msumi said the council was seeking investors for three strategic projects: a modern market at Mateves, a five-star hotel at Sekei and the construction of more than 94 apartments near the council headquarters.
He said the proposed Mateves market would be developed to international standards and include specialised cold-storage facilities for vegetables, meat and other products, taking into account the needs of traders and the tourism industry.
On the proposed five-star hotel, Mr Msumi said Sekei offered attractive investment opportunities because of its proximity to the Arusha–Moshi Highway and the council headquarters.
He said implementing the projects would create employment, expand economic activities and increase the council’s own-source revenue, which it aims to raise to more than Sh60 billion.
Dr Lukumay said private-sector investment would be crucial to achieving Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, which seeks to expand the economy and improve citizens’ incomes.
However, implementation of the proposed projects will depend on the completion of the required documentation, assessments of the designated sites, availability of financing and the conclusion of partnership agreements between the council and investors.
Ends.
