LUKUMAY PRAISES SAMIA OVER HEALTH INVESTMENT, IMPRESSED BY NDURUMA HEALTH CENTRE
......Says emergency surgery services and medical equipment have improved access to healthcare in Arumeru West

Dr Lukumay made the remarks on September 17, 2026, during a tour of Nduruma Ward in Arumeru District, where he inspected the Nduruma Health Centre and listened to residents’ concerns.
During the visit, the legislator observed a range of services offered at the facility, including emergency surgery for expectant mothers.
Dr Lukumay said government investment in health infrastructure was in line with President Samia’s emphasis on strengthening preventive and curative healthcare services.
He also expressed satisfaction with the progress made at Nduruma Health Centre, particularly its ability to provide services that would otherwise require patients to travel to higher-level referral hospitals.“President Samia Suluhu Hassan has placed a strong emphasis on preventive healthcare. Since the government came into office, 119 district hospitals, 179 health centres and 700 dispensaries have been constructed,” he said.
NDURUMA HEALTH CENTRE TAKES ON REFERRAL ROLE
Dr Lukumay said his visit had enabled him to witness the range of modern healthcare services available at the facility, including laboratory testing, radiology services supported by a digital X-ray machine and ultrasound services.
He said the availability of such services was an important investment in bringing healthcare closer to people, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances to referral hospitals.
On maternal and child health services, Dr Lukumay said the facility had a maternity ward and equipment to support childbirth, while trained doctors were capable of performing emergency Caesarean sections.
“What impressed me most is that this health centre has the capacity to provide basic emergency surgical services. It has skilled doctors who can perform operations to save mothers’ lives,” he said.
He added that Nduruma Health Centre serves more than nine dispensaries, giving it an important role in the referral system for patients from surrounding areas.
LUKUMAY COMMENDS MSUMI
Dr Lukumay also commended Arusha District Council Director Suleman Msumi for efforts to strengthen healthcare services across the council.
He said close monitoring of health facilities’ needs and the use of locally generated revenue to carry out renovations were important steps towards improving the environment in which healthcare services are delivered.
“I would like to thank the director for his efforts to ensure that the needs of a facility like this are addressed. Any areas that are lacking or require renovation should be attended to,” he said.
The MP said some challenges facing the health sector required cooperation between the government, elected leaders, health workers and other stakeholders to ensure that services continued to be delivered efficiently.
CALL FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Dr Lukumay urged residents of Nduruma to continue working with the government to protect health infrastructure and make effective use of the services available at the facility.
He commended health workers for their commitment despite challenges associated with their working environment and urged residents to support them in efforts to improve community health.
The legislator stressed that continued investment in health centres was critical to reducing the distance people have to travel to access medical services, particularly maternal healthcare and emergency treatment.
The visit was part of Dr Lukumay’s ongoing activities across Arumeru West Constituency to inspect public services, assess the implementation of development programmes and hear residents’ concerns before presenting them to the relevant authorities.
