MP LUKUMAY CALLS FOR IMPROVED HEALTH SERVICES AT ALMC HOSPITAL

By Joseph Ngilisho – ARUSHA

Dr. Johannes Lukumay, Member of Parliament for Arumeru West and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health, has urged the government to ensure citizens have access to modern, timely, and non-discriminatory healthcare services. His remarks came during a visit to Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre (ALMC), coinciding with the working visit of the Minister of Health, Dr. Mohamed Mchengerwa.

Speaking before the Minister and hospital officials, Dr. Lukumay described the visit as a vital opportunity to assess the real state of healthcare services, as well as the challenges faced by both medical staff and patients.

“We must ensure that children receive vaccinations and primary healthcare, the elderly are treated with dignity, and vulnerable households can access services without unnecessary fees. ALMC, in partnership with Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI), is a prime example of how quality healthcare should be delivered to citizens,” Dr. Lukumay said.

The MP expressed appreciation for the government’s significant investment in hospitals and health projects, while emphasizing the need for advanced equipment such as CT scanners, expansion of hospital units, and increased numbers of doctors and nurses. He also commended ALMC staff for their tireless dedication.

Dr. Lukumay stressed that collaboration between Parliament, the government, and the public is essential to guarantee every Tanzanian’s right to quality healthcare, noting that health is the foundation for national development.

During the visit, Minister Mchengerwa inspected ongoing construction projects, expanded units, and verified new medical equipment—measures aimed at reducing queues and improving service efficiency.

“The government must continue investing in the health sector to ensure patients receive timely services and equal opportunities regardless of income or social status. Together, we can ensure every Tanzanian has access to quality care, good health, and fair medical opportunities,” Dr. Lukumay said, highlighting the visit as an important step toward addressing healthcare challenges in Arusha.

The visit forms part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance health services nationwide, ensuring that every region benefits from modern, prompt, and respectful medical care.
